What are some of the benefits? An effective intranet first and foremost can serve to streamline and consolidate information dissemination and accessiblity. Your employees can have access to data, documents, vendor and customer information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Local and remote employees can participate equally, enabling remote employees to network with home office. This also enhances motivation, since all team members feel they are in touch with their peers, are informed on the latest news and part of a larger group of individuals all working together towards common goals.

A well-designed and optimized intranet feels comfortable and easy to navigate. The key to an effective site is to plan out the functions you want your intranet to serve and enlist the aid of appropriate expertise to help achieve them. Last year our organization deployed a new application-based intranet and ease of use has increased significantly, both for me as the adminstrator and for the folks who contribute content. Most importantly, people actually use the intranet and it is increasingly the go-to point of reference for our organization. It can be for your group or team as well.
